Awesome work dude! I can see you're going for some concept-art realism and you've gone pretty far! Definitely on the right track. There could be better color choice (and you admitted this was a challenge) while for the landscape/background I think it was actually the strongest part of this piece! The foreground is done well of course, but it blends too easily to the background. Better implementation of light effects (shadows, light-scattering, highlights etc..) could really improve your piece although the yellow flower thing looks really nice! Again, great work pal!

TauDA responds:

Thank you so much for the feed back :D I hadn't considered the foreground blending into the background but now you've pointed it out it makes a lot of sense ^_^ (something to aim to do better in the next one!)

Yeh the lighting is a bit.. one dimensional :)

Again thanks so much for the feedback :D

Hello! You're spot on with the Yu-Gi-Oh! aesthetics and I must say it looks quite nice on Supes xD. The color is also pleasant to look at despite the simple shading. The pose though is definitely unbalanced. His body is angled too far to the left for that feet position to be plausible. The wing also looked too heavy for that position.

Squiel responds:

Thank you! I love the Yu-Gi-Oh! series and this is kind of tribute. I played around with the colors to find a good balance with the always-competing 3 primary colors. Yeah, the shading was not a priority so it is simple enough. He is copying Michael Jackson's pose ?) xD. I saw something was wrong but assumed he was flying so it stayed like that. I thought the cape to be metallic but that would also be very heavy. Let's say it was windy. Thank you for your critique.

Oh dang, this is really good! A most interesting comic style you have there! Yet the details are excellently pulled off! There's just so much good stuff that I get confused what to look at first xD

Hey! That's some excellent lineart-heavy rendering of the hands you did there! You definitely had chosen a terrific anatomical reference. What I like most is how one could see that you've taken the appealing aspects of anime-style art such as the eyes and aspect ratio of the body, but relied plenty on anatomical realism too. It's an interesting balance of appealism and realism I must say!

I kinda want to give some feedback for improvement but you've limited my options by minimalizing what you display. You have improved (been studying those 5 months, eh?) compared to your 2016 stuff but it would be really great if you could put up artwork aside from stiff photo-album-portrait style. Or perhaps you can try out some prompts, add a little setting or event. I find it more satisfying to even out than to focus entirely on one thing, kinda like being more of a triangle than a needle.

Zuzuhiro responds:

Thank you very much for your review! And yeah, I do want to expand my horizon on creating some more things rather than just a person. I wanna be more expressive about my art. Gonna take longer time but as long as the result is good, it's well worth the time. Also, my calculations were a bit off. It was actually around 7 months hahahah so yeah I did condense a lot of detail for the dude. Anyways I digress. Thank you again for your review and thank you for giving me constructive criticism to be inspired to make better art!

Hello there! Excellent concept! The small dude is well placed and the visual effects comes together really nicely. Some technical comments from me would be that the lines reaching downward seems to be rushed. Are they dripping liquid? Or scratch marks? The edges of the demon could also be better blended. Did you use an airbrush kind of tool? The edges of the black layer could be better blended into the whites so as to not show remnants of the flat edges (like in the left part and some other areas in the middle). The skull and red hand seems a bit wonky but the overall aesthetics kinda covers for that. Cool work, great idea!

Jeerassik responds:

Thank you so much for the constructive feedback. This is really appreciated!

Woo! Nice! This is one of the modernist approaches I find really pleasant to look at. Color composition is definitely the main focus here, and you pulled it off excellently! This could have been made with a larger size and better image quality though. I personally feel extra satisfaction by zooming in on the details in more rendered pieces like these. Keep it up!

Before reading your comment, I thought this as a painting that highly resembles a product of crafting in real life. Yet it seems it's actually made out of wood and painted. So now my brain is very confused as to what to make of the photo of the art that resembles but is not a painting of a real life object.

I don't know if it's intentional, but the textures of the wall, the lighting, the acrylic on the card, all of them match so well to create the aforementioned effect. The composition is just stunning!

Are you sure you didn't paint this on a canvas? xD

Drynosed responds:

Best thanks for your comment! :)
I think, the "painted on canvas effect" comes from the not-so-well-quality of my camera :D I'm far from being able to paint on such a realistic level xD
But I actually intended to show nothing but wood and paint in this picture so that the hand-crafted impression strengthens when you look at it.

Got another view of the card, if you care: http://fav.me/dbv18l1

Cheers!

Great design, very effective for a humorous and expressive simple comic-style more oriented towards story/plot as opposed to action and graphic quality. The background might be better as flat colors thought so as to maintain style and there might be a better way to highlight the characters. Nice colors though!

YonusBahtzee responds:

Dankeschön!

I see you have great knowledge of machines! The form is detailed enough to be believable but not confusing to see. Perhaps you could work on the colors though, it's rather ineffective for the level of detail you've made for the visor (or increase contrast due to lighting for a more dramatic effect). You could also add the whole body if you want to go with a simple background. This seemed too much like a cropped image.

KEINGARRISON responds:

thanks for the advise! i will improve myself!

The colors are wonderful! The blending of colors, the texture of the dress and the skin tones are just marvelous. It has that vibrant painterly aesthetic, bu with the awesome touch of stylization. Not sure what could be improved, maybe cleaner lines and edges? :D

that's my kryptonite
I don' like wasting time on cleaning drawings and a lot of people connect that with ''quality'' which is understandable
