A photo study? It's quite decently done. Hopefully you've gained a lot from it!

There's a few hard edges that may need to be smoothed out, skin folds that seem slightly out of place but it depends on the quality of your reference picture. Still a successful study though!

TheRocki responds:

thanks for the cirtique

Not bad! I like the warm colors but perhaps a cooler green might add a nicer contrast. I also like the expression! The position of the legs seem off though and cropping the sides might be a good idea since the negative space isn't being used well.

YaBoiDante responds:

I forgot to make a version with the transparent background and posted the "version for instagram" instead
You're right with the legs, I noticed that after I added the flat colors
I wanted to keep her warm, to make her sweet and caring personality more obvious, but maybe it wasnt the best idea
Thank you for the review tho! I really appreciate it!

The colors and anatomy are quite decent but don't get lazy when rendering the shoulder, neck area and the background (a simple one would've been better composition wise). Go check some color and values theory.

And well done re-finding motivation. Art gets tiring sometimes.

NGiaconia responds:

Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll make sure to check all of that. I was going to buy a book about color theory anyway, so I think now is the perfect time. Have a nice day!

I agree that the blend brush has its ups and downs. It's one of those digital art thing that adds a nice touch but seems to mess up in other unforeseen ways - losing details for example. What're you using? Krita?

Also, no industrial design this time around? Won't you give our soon to be overlords just a little more mechanical aesthetics?

TheDyingSun responds:

I am using Krita (and I love it!). About adding more mechanical aesthetics... shh! You're spoiling the next drawing! (That I'll finish when I get back from camp, I am giving our robot overlords the love they deserve, though)

The motion is good but increase the frame rate! It'll look smoother.

FlumpyTripod responds:

Yeah. I was trying to go for a NES-esque walk cycle, so I was trying to use the least amount of frames that I could.

Boo, go back to DA...

Just messing with ya, XD.

I like the line-art, it's all clean and the flow is pulled off well. Give some more line weight variation a try, it may improve your style. Cel-shading was pulled off quite well although a better contrast (especially on the legs) would definitely be nice. The little notes you wrote around the piece is a nice touch but that shade of purple on the blue background makes it slightly difficult to read. Great work though!

MoonBunny responds:

I'll take note! Thank you very much for the feedback <3

Oh the hues, it's amazing!

Lord-Urien responds:

I wasnt feeling the colors for this one, but im glad they work

Haha! I recognized them immediately. Awesome work dude!

TreC101 responds:

Haha thank you c:

Hey! Really good I must say, but if there's any improvements that can be made it must be the textures. I feel this looks much too glossy for skin and the shading feels unnatural for the eye in the darker side of the face. Nevertheless, composition was well done, the concept was clearly portrayed and the execution was overall excellent!

TauDA responds:

Thanks :). Yeh the whole thing was painted using a the soft airbrushes so it all smoothed over too well! I shall have to attempt it again in a few months after some more tutorials!

Awesome work dude! I can see you're going for some concept-art realism and you've gone pretty far! Definitely on the right track. There could be better color choice (and you admitted this was a challenge) while for the landscape/background I think it was actually the strongest part of this piece! The foreground is done well of course, but it blends too easily to the background. Better implementation of light effects (shadows, light-scattering, highlights etc..) could really improve your piece although the yellow flower thing looks really nice! Again, great work pal!

TauDA responds:

Thank you so much for the feed back :D I hadn't considered the foreground blending into the background but now you've pointed it out it makes a lot of sense ^_^ (something to aim to do better in the next one!)

Yeh the lighting is a bit.. one dimensional :)

Again thanks so much for the feedback :D
